Cropping/ Cutting Out Complex Images - Paint Shop Pro (PSP) 7 Tutorial

With this cropping complex images Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial, you can crop(cut out)almost anything, no matter how difficult. This tutorial was written for Paint Shop Pro (PSP), but can probably be used for other versions as well.

Tutorial - Step 1 Cropping/ Cutting Out Images - Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

Select the freehand selection tool , then the point to point setting to give you more control.





Tutorial - Step 2 Cropping/ Cutting Out Images - Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

Zoom in so you can see what you want to cut, then single click around the edges until you have completed the selection, and then double click to end it. IF you are having troubles with jagged edges, go to selections | Adjust | Contract, and enter "1". Then go to selections | adjust | feather, and enter a value from "1" to "3". You can experiment with these values to get the cleanest edge.

Now copy the image (Ctrl-C), and then paste it (Ctrl-L) onto the background you want.





Tutorial - Step 4 Cropping/ Cutting Out Images - Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

You have now just changed the background of an image! Use the eraser to clean it up if you want. Happy Cutting!

Yeah, this is the old fashioned way to do it...if u got psp7 then u select smart edge, presise cursor and show brushes outlines and it comes out better...

I was wondering if you were able to paste a color picture onto a backround thats in black in white... I've been trying but when I paste the picture thats in color, it just goes to greyscale... Im really confused,, could you please help? my Email is Kttnprincess13@aol.com

You have to increase the amount of colors by clicking the Image menu, then Increase Colors, and then set it to either 8 bit or 24 bit.

Why don't you use feather?
For me it's always a great help to avoid unclean edges when set to small values (for most pics 1 to 5 pixels)

hi... I learned a few things here, but I am looking for how to get the black edges off when making a tube? I've tried feathering but have no luck with that. I use PSP7.

Hi, I was also wondering if you can put a color on a greyscale, and if not with this, if there is something else that you could do it with. I know I've seen it done before, but I've never quite figured it out.
