1 Pixel Bevel Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

Here is a tutorial on how to make the 1 pixel bevels you see in the borders around my site. Awesome technique. This tutorial was written for Paint Shop Pro (PSP), but can probably be used for other versions as well.

Tutorial - Step 11 Pixel Bevel Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

Create a new image, 200 by 200 , and make a new raster layer . Now using the selection tool create the black shape you want to add the bevel to.

Next, use the magic wand , to select the black shape, the go to selections | modify | contract, and set the value to 2. Then select the fill tool and fill the selection with any color other than black.

Tutorial - Step 31 Pixel Bevel Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

KEEP YOUR SELECTION ACTIVE. Now go to Layers | Duplicate , and do that twice so you have to copied layers. Name the first layer Shadow1, and name the 2nd layer Shadow2.

Tutorial - Step 41 Pixel Bevel Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

Now, click on the "shadow2" layer and go to Effects | 3D Effects | Cutout and enter these values.

  • Verticle = 1
  • Horizontal = 1
  • Opacity = 100
  • Blur = 0
  • Shadow Color = White

Now, click on the "shadow1" layer and go to Effects | 3D Effects | Cutout and enter these values.

  • Verticle = -1
  • Horizontal = -1
  • Opacity = 100
  • Blur = 0
  • Shadow Color = Black

Tutorial - Step 61 Pixel Bevel Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

In your layer pallette adjust the opacity of the layers until it begins to look good. I used 50 for shadow 2 and 40 for shadow 1.

Tutorial - Step 71 Pixel Bevel Paint Shop Pro (PSP) tutorial

There you have it. You have completed the one bevel technique. Next, try adding a drop shadow, or a few gel buttons. Good Luck!
