Banner Tutorial for PSP (Paint Shop Pro)

Part 1 | Part 2

banner tuorial for psp, paint shop pro 7 or 8

This is a banner tutorial on how I made my banner for my homepage in PSP (Paint Shop Pro). I use all sorts of effects found in seperate tutorials, so this is an example of what everything can do also. In this tutorial, you can learn to make cool backgrounds, sigs (signatures), banners, and wallpapers. Learn effects such as transparent lines and shapes, clouds filter in Paint Shop Pro (PSP), and scanlines and grids. Now lets start on this banner psp tutorial.

banner tuorial for psp, paint shop pro 7 or 8 banner tuorial for psp, paint shop pro 7 or 8

In this tutorials I am going to be teaching you, step by step, how I made the logo at the top of my old page. This is my first mega tutorial and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks! Here is the psp file if you want to download it.

The first step is to create a new image . My image size is 700 x 150. Set the background color to #2D5A82, a nice blue color. The next step is to create a grid. Now go to Layers- New Raster Layer to create a new layer. Name this layer "grid".

The next step is to use my grid tutorial to create a 10 pixel black grid. Your image should now look like this. You can download the grid pattern here . Now go to Masks- New- From Image and enter these values:

Source Window: This window
Create mask from: Source Luminance
Invert mask date: Checked

Last, turn down the opacity to 16. This should give you a nice, light grid.

Now we need to add some clouds to the image. Make a new layer by going to Layers- New Raster Layer , and name it "clouds". To do this you need a plugin which you can download here . The clouds aren't necessary though so you can skip this step if you want. After you have installed the plugin, go to Effects- Plugins- MuRa's Meister- Clouds. Use these options . Now go to Masks- New- From Image and enter these values:

Source Window: This window
Create mask from: Source Luminance
Invert mask date: Checked

Now adjust the opacity of the layer down to 18.

Now we have a nice, textured background with a grid. The last thing we are going to add to the background is scanlines. Make a new layer by going to Layers- New Raster Layer , and name it "scanlines". Now follow the scanlines tutorial to add scanlines to the background. Create a new mask using the same steps as steps 3 and 4, and adjust the opacity of the "scanlines" layer down to 16.

Now you have created the background for the banner. The next step is to add the text, hexagons, and lines.

I used PSP 7 in almost all of the tutorials, but they will all work in PSP 8 and 9. Only thing different is that some of the tools are in different places, but they won't take long to find.

This is a great tutorial. You have so many helps on it (the graphics of the various settings, plugins, etc). I have it permanently bookmarked in my favorite links folder, and have used it many times.

I suspect that the folks having trouble are not that familiar yet with PSP and using patters/textures. I hope you do more mega-tutorials. Thanks for all your work going into it.

All of these tutorials suck. Apparently they don't work for PSP 9. I've done everything the way that I was supposed to do it, and it doesn't come out right. It doesn't let me do certain things. What you need to do is a REAL STEP-BY-STEP tutorial. What tabs to hit with pictures and everything, so that the "not-so intelligently inclined people" (such as myself) can truly understand what it is we're doing.

Just wanted to comment on the last post. I used this tut with PSP 9 and it came out very well. For those unfamiliar with PSP, I suggest you start out on an earlier version before moving up with the big dogs...don't down the creator.
Thanks for the great tips! Keep um coming!

Great tut, but I don't know what version of psp you used. If anyone can tell me it would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to start making sigs and banners. Keep doing tuts they're amazin'!!

I like the tutorial, but I, too, am having a lot of trouble working the pattern part of it in PSP 9, and while I'm new to version 9, I'm not new to PSP. The older versions had a much easier user interface. This one sucks ass.

Brining a new dog into your home is an exciting time for the whole family, not to mention the dog. The first dog training supplies you should buy, before you even bring the dog home, are a food and water bowl, collar, leash, food and a bed. If you have another dog in the home and were thinking of having them both share a bowl, think dog training products again. Sometimes a new dog can be aggressive, or be attacked when trying to feed in a joint bowl. It's best to let the dog know what is his , for food and water.

There are different types of anti bark collar. One type is remote dog collar. As the name suggests, it is used to stop a dog from constant, inappropriate barking.
